A large oil spill occurred on the eastern coast of the TRNC. The government of North Cyprus asked UN and Turkey for help and accepted the offer made by the Republic of Cyprus. According to preliminary data, between 50 and 100 tons of oil has been spilt and spread along 7 km. Oil spill has caused considerable damage to the coast and will have a devastating effect on the natural environment. Oil spill has occurred due to faulty pipe during transportation of oil from the ship to North Cyprus.
