The case of Simon Aykut, detained in South Cyprus

The case of Simon Aykut, detained in South Cyprus

The case of Simon Aykut, detained in South Cyprus over allegations related to the purchase and sale of former Greek Cypriot property in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, was heard in court yesterday. Aykut’s lawyer, Nikoletta Haralambidou, challenged the jurisdiction of the Greek Cypriot court, stating that the charges involve property transactions outside the control of the "Republic of Cyprus" and that the court has no right to hear this case under international law. Prosecutor Elena Kleopa presented her counterarguments, claiming that the case concerns Cyprus's territorial integrity. The court’s decision is expected on November 8, 2024
